Ola driver masturbated in taxi, says India woman

A woman has alleged that a driver linked to App based taxi service Ola masturbated when she was travelling in the vehicle in Delhi last week. The incident is the latest in a string of controversies involving app based taxi services in India.

The woman, according to a report in Hindustan Times works as a creative strategist for a Mumbai-based digital and social media consultancy firm. She had called Olacabs on July 2 to take her from Saket in south Delhi to Faridabad in Haryana. Olacabs sent a TaxiForSure vehicle driven by Devinder Kumar. TaxiForSure is Olacabs’ partner company which it acquired for $200m in March this year.

The woman described the incident through a Facebook post and Tweets which was picked up by the media. The woman said an update on her Facebook page that she had to request the driver thrice to lower the volume of the music as she was talking over phone. “As I was roughly 25 minutes from my destination, the driver got impatient and started driving brashly. Moreover he seemed extremely restless, anxious, and kept mumbling something to himself. I discontinued my call and asked him to drive properly in the most polite manner possible,” the woman wrote.

“I was about to make another call when I noticed that he was masturbating while driving. He had little control over the wheel as well as his perverseness. He had a smile on his face that will haunt me for nights to come. A #PSYCHOTIC man with a severe chemical imbalance for a driver is nothing but serious,” she added.

A TaxiForSure spokesperson was quoted by Hindustan Times as saying that the driver has been sacked. However, the woman has said to the newspaper that she is dissatisfied with the response of the firm.

There have been several such controversies related to App-based taxi aggregator services in India.

In December last year, the Delhi government banned app based taxi services after a woman executive in the capital alleged that the driver of her Uber cab had raped her after she fell asleep in the backseat of the car. The Uber cab driver is still facing trial in the case and has denied the charges.

Ola had however managed to convince the Delhi High Court to lift the ban following which app-based taxi services had resumed in the capital.

In yet another shocking case of honour killing in Pakistan, a three months pregnant woman was stoned to death for marrying the man of her choice.

woman stoned in Pakistan

LAHORE: The 25-year-old woman, Farzana Iqbal, was attacked outside the Lahore High Court by two dozen men including her father and brother. She was at the court to testify that she had married of her own choice as her family members had accused her husband of kidnapping her and forcibly marrying her.

Farzana’s brother first shot at her but the bullet didn’t hit her. She started running to escape but fell down and the mob attacked her with bricks and killed her.

Farzana’s lawyer, Ghulam Mustafa informed media persons, “We were on our way from the office to the court, but all of a sudden the opposite party attacked us, and killed Farzana by stoning her to death with bricks. We have registered the First Information Report and her father has been arrested. Now, we will see how the police and court proceed in the investigation.”

A number of Pakistani women have no say in whom they marry and are often at the receiving end of their family’s anger if they go against their wishes. It is believed that if women marry on their own choice it will bring shame to the family.

Even the laws are biased towards the family members if they are perpetrators of such crimes as ‘honour killing’. Pakistan Human Rights Commission estimates that 869 women were killed for honour last year.

Inder Kumar

MUMBAI: Days after his arrest for allegedly raping a model and physically assaulting her, Bollywood actor Inder Kumar’s wife Pallavi Kumar Sarraf has claimed that her husband is innocent. Pallavi addressed a press conference in Mumbai yesterday claiming that her Inder has been falsely framed.

“She (the model) claims that she was raped on the 23rd and 24th. If someone is held captive and getting raped, that person won’t move in and out of the apartment, go out and get alcohol. Have a party and order food from outside,” she said.

Actor Inder Kumar was sent to police custody on Saturday for allegedly raping an upcoming model. Pallavai, who is hell bent to prove that Inder is innocent, admitted, “I agree my husband slipped. Any man would, no one is a saint here. There are many in the industry who do this. Some affairs come out some don’t. It’s his bad luck that someone wants to destroy him.”

Pallavi is confident that the truth will come out by the 30th of this month and they will be applying for bail right after. The model is admitted at Cooper hospital currently.

In the light of his fling with the model, Pallavi had left the house and had started living with her mother who resides in the same building.

The actor, who is considered to be close friend of Bollywood superstar Salman Khan, has worked in Bollywood movies like ‘Wanted,’ ‘Maa Tujhhe Salaam,’ ‘Baaghi,’ ‘Khiladiyon Ka Khiladi,’ ‘Tum Ko Naa Bhool Payenge’ and ‘Masoom’, among others.

School teacher Raped

NEW DELHI: In yet another incident of sexual harassment in Vasant Vihar-based Chinmaya Vidyalaya in Indian capital New Delhi, a woman teacher has alleged that she was molested by her principal and the secretary of the management committee of the school.

The complainant, who is working with the school as a sports teacher, has alleged that the manager of the school, Vijay Daulat, has been calling her to his house and asking her to come out with him since 2012. She has also alleged that the principal, Abhijeet Bose, once called her to his cabin and praised her dress and even called her “sexy”.

She said Daulat called her to the principal’s office on March 14 this year and made her sit on the sofa. “He was talking about my T-shirt and then touched me inappropriately. When I objected, he said he was praising my fitness. He further told me to compromise to save my job. Since then, I have been under constant pressure from them,” she stated.

Following her complaint, the south district police have registered a case and began investigations. However, no arrests have been made so far. The FIR was registered on April 16.

Earlier this month, a former woman teacher, had leveled similar charges against three senior members of the management committee, including the principal. She had alleged that when she brought up the issue with the principal, he told her to comply as it would help expedite her promotion and, later, forcibly removed her from the job. She had also alleged that she was “sexually harassed” by Daulat in August last year after he called her to the principal’s office to discuss work and tried to make physical contact.

Chhattisgarh DGP AN Upadhyay claimed the incident to be a Maoist attack.

“A bomb blast took place when CRPF men were investigating a suspicious location. Two army men died, eight injured in the blast”, said Upadhyay.

ADG (intelligence) Mukesh Gupta, on the other hand denied the DGP’s claim.
